All the Spews that's Spit to Sprint
The point of this blog is to dump all the stuff that I would normally be sending in email to friends and family into this page so that my friends and family are not plagued by a host of email-locusts.

The Ravenna Show

Here's a still frame from her video that makes her look like a talk show host.

Ravenna talk
The latest quotables from our nearly 3 year old:
"I'm going to do it all by myself, with your help."
"I go to sleep by myself, next to you."
"I'm a golfer like Daddy."
"Why we have our own house? Why we don't live in a hotel?"
"My legs are lazy." [wants to be carried]
"Diz you listening to me?" [said to a zoned out Mommy. "Diz" is her word that is a cross between "does" and "is."
"Is there bones inside?" [while feeling her erect nipples]

Easter Rundown

The day before Easter, Ravenna went to the egg hunt at the
Ballard Community Center, her new current home-away-from-home. She picked up eggs with the other 3&under kids, and scored 9 plastic eggs, each filled with candy. It was all over in 3 minutes. She ate the one lollipop that she got and we took the rest (mostly chocolate) home to add to her stash of uneaten candy leftover from Halloween.
That night we dyed Easter eggs and I used the leftover dye to dye some superwash merino wool for spinning.

That night the Easter Bunny came and left us goodies in our baskets and hid some Easter eggs. Unfortunately, that was also the night Ravenna came down with a nasty cold and so she was up from 1:30-6am, and while she was downstairs, she was like "there's an egg!" and also saw the baskets. So the Easter Bunny had to come back and re-hide some of the eggs.

Grand Tour of Seattle's Coffeehouses
Ravenna and I have spent a lot of time in local coffee shops there past few months. It sure beats sitting at home. Ravenna gets to play with new toys and books. Mommy gets to sit and knit. I could spend my life in coffee shops. Here are a few that have stood out:
Wayward Coffeehouse in Greenwood. Basket of toys, kid size table and chairs. Fruity icey "Eskie" drinks. Seems to be geared toward the Firefly/Serenity crowd.
My Coffeehouse at Madison and 28th near Capital Hill. This place is designed with kids in mind. Most of the available sitting space is in the toy area. They have things like cheerios and trailmix on the menu, as well as kids' drinks.
Mosaic Coffeehouse in Wallingford. In a former church, this space is huge. The kids' area is the size of my living room. The food and drinks are wonderful, and there are no prices...you just donate "what it's worth to you."
Cloud City Coffee in Maple Leaf. Bunch of toys and books and sofa, too. Tea "honor bar." Sandwiches, soup and more.

New favorite music
Ravenna has been grooving to They Might be Giants "
Here Come the 123s" and also the
Wild Tchoupitoulas. And for some reason she keeps putting on this
Fisher album.
She also likes the song
Hljómalind by Sigur Ros. I first found out it had caught her ear when she asked me "Why they saying 'RQ'?" Cause that's what it sounds like, but they are singing in Icelandic. So now when she hears the song she loudly sings "RQ! RQ!" along with the singer.
"I pooped for cheese"
Ravenna needs a button or t-shirt that says "I pooped for cheese" which is her new mantra. Ya see, a couple of weeks ago she was constipated...didn't poop for 4 days. I had heard that cheese is constipating so I told her she couldn't have any more cheese till she pooped. Now she's back to pooping every day again, and whenever she eats or requests cheese, she says "I pooped so I can have cheese" often followed by the statement, "I pooped for cheese." And who wouldn't?

Ravenna Turns Pro
Since Mommy didn't know which shots to use, Daddy is posting on her behalf:
Here's some shots of Ravenna's golf swing. For those out there that think Daddy is pushing her too hard, let me say this: she's the one who wants to go every time I say I'm headed to the range, the one who keeps stealing my balls from my stall after she uses hers up, the one who wanted to do putting in the rain when it was dark and closed. :)
The good news is that she's thinking of taking up dancing. While this might ruin her current golf fixation, it would at least take the blame off Daddy when she decides to do a more 'girl accepted' physical activity. :) Love ya kid, whatever your passion, we'll support... unless you plan on joining the Republican party. We'll still love you, but we may need to call in an intervention at that point ;)

The most important move, and her form is perfect! Alyssa got this great coincidental shot:

Her stance is open and so is her club, but hey, better than mine was before lessons. If she didn't bend over & sometimes bend her knees a lot on the downswing, I think she could double her distance. But I try not to give her too much instruction because I don't want to ruin her fun.

Ravenna in the News
In case you haven't visited the incredibly popular "Painting From Scratch" blog, you should check out Ravenna's recent
contribution. Let's just say she's a better artist than her Daddy.

Troy's Birthday Cake

This is one of those kitchen disasters made good... The sheet cake came out only 1 inch thick, so we rolled it up like a giant hoho and enrobed it in fondant...The bundt cake broke in three pieces when I took it out of the pan (it became the dragon's tail).
Knitting
I'm going to just post my new knitting projects on
Ravelry now (username: summerleaf), so I probably won't be posting there here anymore.
Spin Thing
So I recently took up spinning...yarn from fiber, that is. Here is my first attempt at spinning some merino top fiber...I wound it off the spindle onto a tinkertoy niddy-noddy for skeining.

On the left is the spun single, in the middle is some two-ply and on the right is the swatch I knitted with the two ply.

Clearly this is some messed up yarn. It is overspun in places and seriously, badly, thick-and-thin.
Next is a pic of what's currently on the spindle, and although this is better, I have a long way to go.
Morning Glories
One of Ravenna's
favorite videos. You can almost hear the morning glories saying "Oh, I need something to grab onto, there must be something to grab onto around here..."
